Arthur and the Invisibles (2006)
This film should have been magical. But I didn't feel much magic. It was more like an overblown combination of 'Shrek' and 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids'. Kids may love the little creatures found under the blades of grass at young Freddie Highmore's grandmother's house, but adults will find the film's action, comedy and sentiment rather yawn-inducing. **
Batman Begins (2005)
Much darker than the previous Batman movies, this explores the origins of the caped crusader and how he came to be. A great cast and fantastic effects and art direction make this a winner. If you're a fan of the earlier films, be ready for a complete change in direction for the series! ****
Constantine (2005)
Interesting premise, Keanu Reeves, the supernatural, good special effects. What went wrong? This hodgepodge of religion, retribution and really confusing storytelling is for fans of the genre only, who may or may not be disappointed. I was. Some of the visual effects are startling, however. **1/2
Cry Baby (1990)
Sweet musical comedy set in the 1950's with Johnny Depp in one of his early roles. ***1/2
Disturbia (2007)
Alfred Hitchcock-inspired thriller where a housebound teen is obsessed with trying to decipher whether his neighbour is a serial killer or not. Interesting premise is handled well by it's relatively young cast and director DJ Caruso. Tense finale should find you on the edge of your seat. ***1/2
Gossip (2001)
Intriguing thriller about a group of college students who investigate the theory of gossip and how fast it spreads for a class project. As you can imagine, it's not long before things spiral out of control. The young cast, mainly made up of unknowns, give it their all, and there are a few good twists before the movie reaches it's climax. ***1/2
Lassie (2005)
This charming remake of the classic Lassie story features gorgeous scenery, a likeable cast (including the beautiful Lassie) and sure direction. Any dog-lover should love it. ***1/2
Thumbsucker (2006)
Well-written comedy drama with a fantastic cast and witty script. ****
V for Vendetta (2005)
A spectacular actioner with great performances by Hugh Jackman, Natalie Portman and Stephen Rea. Thrilling. ****
You, Me and Dupree (2006)
Owen Wilson shines as a sweet guy who moves in with perfect couple Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon. Trouble is he's more than a bit unreliable when it comes to looking after their house! Good performances and plenty of laughs make this comedy pass the time well. ***1/2

XBox playoff results are in!

Our January 10th tournament kicked off 2008 with 15 kids and teens battling it out for an assortment of small prizes, and two major prizes. Matthew and Reuben were our lucky final round winners, and each scored a 2008 calendar, DVD, and 2 CD's. Everyone else did some fantastic racing too - well done everyone!
